Stone columns repair, London. Ealing luxury flats example
Pictured: A stone column repaired by London Stonemasonry
London Stonemasonry were asked to investigate damage and degradation to the stone facade of a luxury flats building in Ealing, by the head of the residents association. The client was concerned that crumbling Bath stone columns would eventually lead to the structural failure of the buildings entrance portico.
We inspected the site and prepared a report of recommendations that was sent to the association.
We were then employed to undertake urgent repairs to the stone columns of the portico.
The damaged sections of the columns were cut back to solid stone, then we built up and shaped layers of mortar repairs to form the detailed sections seen in the pictures on this page. Several applications of the colour-matched mortar, along with further shaping and rubbing-back, enhanced the appearance of the columns.
Our masons expert mortar repairs protect the columns from further damage, and prolong column lifespan, without the need for extensive, expensive, structural replacement and construction work.
